More dressing for summer

More dressing for summer

More dressing for summer by Garderob

This is how I'd like to dress for summer, I love the Opening ceremony sandals and the summery A.P.C bag. My slouchy version of the collage is this first picture - Etoile linen pants, Hope tee and A.P.C sandals. As the temperature rises I tend to wear more slouchy than skinny pants and jeans, but my skinny lightweight Rodebjer pants are comfortable when it's warm too - here with an A.P.C tee, A.P.C wedge espandrilles and Jerome Dreyfuss Mini Twee bag.

The A.P.C tee is a good example of why I've been buying that brand since the late 90's. It's a classic stripe tee with a nice neckline, buttons and excellent quality cotton. When I was a student in the late 90's/early 2000's A.P.C didn't have an online store, you had to sign up for the catalouge and call and place an order. I remember how I used to save up and wait for the catalouge to arrive, it was like waiting for Christmas! I wish I would have saved all the catalouges, it'd so much fun to have a look at them now. I have a feeeling that their aesthetic is pretty much the same. I have a few really old A.P.C items, and I still like them and wear them occationally. It's the only brand I can think of that I've liked for such a long time. I usually don't like the entire collection, but there are always one or two pieces that could fill a hole in my wardrobe. I especially love their shoes, knits and coats. Do you have a brand that you keep coming back to?

  1. I love that A.P.C. bag and those sunglasses! I feel the same way about A.P.C. It's probably the only brand that I've consistently purchased for several years. Like you, I usually don't like the entire collection, but there are always pieces from it that are just so classic and perfectly designed. My favorites are usually their tops. I think they make the most perfect sweaters and t-shirts.

I am still in love with your new A.P.C. sandals! Now that you've had them for awhile, do you find them comfortable? I'm tempted to get them, but worry that they won't be comfortable enough for all the walking that I do.

  2. I love the 2nd look with the APC tee!
And I also have an APC catalogue or two left from that period. It seems like a liftetime ago when online shopping wasn't so common.

My heart and wallet go to Isabel Marant. I can be disappointed by the show but I know I'll always find something I'll love in stores. I still have this great knit from her Monoprix collaboration from more than 10 years ago. It's a bit shabby to wear outside but I love it too much to part with it.

  3. These are pretty much perfect summer outfits, I love them both. I like how you manage both a slouchy summer look and a cleaner silhouette and still manage to look totally Garderoben! I wish that I knew about APC, Marant, etc 10 years ago, but I had never heard of those brands at the time, and probably would have quite the time tracking them down any way. Instead, I wore a lot of JCrew back then, and yes, I had to place phone orders too!

  4. I have things from Benetton that are over seven years old(I'm 22), that I still wear today. Benetton was the only great store in the town where I grew up. I think I will always have a special relationship with that brand.

  5. jennifer - Yes, A.P.C tops are great too! I'm very happy with the wedges. They are very comfortable, the heel height is just like IM boots. I've been wearing them for entire days, at work, and my feet feel fine by the end of the day. Have you seen the pre fall version? They're so pretty, especially in burgundy.

Aïssa - I know, it really feels like a life time ago! I feel just like you when it comes to Isabel Marant. I seem to only buy Isabel Marant, A.P.C and Hope. I haven't known about IM as long as A.P.C, though, maybe only for five years or so.

S - Thanks! I wish I could remember what I used to do instead of spending all this time looking up clothes online! It'd be quite scary to see how many hours/week or month that'd add up to.

Jenny - Yes, Benetton has been around for a really long time too, but not in the town where I grew up. Thanks for stopping by:)!

  6. I've always loved the look of A.P.C but it was too expensive for me as a struggling college student, and in any case, before internet shopping got to be what it is, it was hardly available in Singapore.

I love their mood and aesthetic even if I don't always find something I want. Sometimes I find it overpriced too, but I usually do quite well in the sales. We have an A.P.C boutique now but it's still cheaper to order online, even with the shipping costs. Not very "green" to do that though!

My favourite high street brand has to be Massimo Dutti - they make the kind of preppy things I love, their cuts suit me, and they always use nice fabrics, and it's affordable.

The details on that A.P.C t-shirt are great.

  7. We need to form an A.P.C respect club! I am enjoying this collage of clothes ideas. You have reminded me that I have a gap in my sunglasses collection. I am missing a tortoise shell pair! Those ones are perfect.

  8. i love this outfit! just got a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses this summer (celine original) and though i love them, i love the cutler + gross ones even more. like aissa, i have to say that IM (but also acne) are my go-to brand. i always find really great pieces nearly every season. i'm a complete devotee of acne, though i seem to find much less in the S/S lines. i've been shopping isabel for nearly a decade, and i have to say most of her pieces have withstood the test of time. my problem with these two brands is that they seem to be shifting their manufacturing overseas to china and india. that makes me sad. unfortunately, brands made in france or italy tend to be super-pricey. i have a few star pieces in my wardrobe by margiela, marni, and dries and if money was no object i would wear these all the time.

  9. You can never go wrong with APC! I'm actually obsessed with your black sandals.

  10. lin - I find A.P.C overpriced sometimes too, but the jackets/coats are usually worth the price. The quality is so good. Massimo Dutti isn't available here, I've been to the Stockholm store once, but I can't really say if it's for me.

R A - Yes we do:)! I love the sunglasses too. I wish I could try them on.

mel - Tortoiseshell sunglasses are my favourite kind of sunglasses. I know, these are perfect, I'd love to try them on even if I'm happy with my Karen Walker ones. I used to wear more Acne, but here in Acne-country everyone wears it, it gets boring. I've had some problems with the quality too, but I love their knits. I also feel sad about the overseas manufacturing. I've recently been really disappointed with the quality of some Isabel Marant Etoile clothes.

Emmy - I know! Oh, I got the black sandals on sale a few years ago. This is probably their last summer!

  11. I just bought two belts from APC and they are so great. Super simple and exactly the minimalist hardware that I look for in belts, which is actually really hard to find! It took me awhile to get into A.P.C. but now I love them.

Wanted to let you know I finally put up a new post. Would love to hear your comments when you have a chance.

  12. you look great! amazing that you have vintage APC from the 90s and 2000s - i didn't know about the brand until a few years ago. i think their tops work for me the best - their dresses are so gamine and tempting, but sometimes the fit and cut can be tricky.

i think the brands i keep going back to has to be j.crew and rag & bone. rag & bone makes great quality pieces and the tailoring on my rag and bone jackets are superb. and i love that r&b items are all made in NYC.

  13. agnes comme fellini - I also recently bought an A.P.C belt, I love it. Thay make some great accesories. I've had a look at you outfits, love them and will comment soon!

miss sophie - Thanks! The dresses don't work for me either, I find them too girly. I feel like a school girl when I try them on. I have one a.P.C dress that I love, with a very 20's inspired cut. I really like Rag & Bone too, but I only have a pair of ballet flats and a shirt. I can't find it here, and if I order from the States I have to pay an additonal 40 % off the value in custom fees and taxes...

  14. I feel just the same about APC - but I DID keep all the catalogues! I can see why they don't produce the full catalogues now, just sheets, but I do miss them...
