Summer stripes

I wear my stripey tops all year round, but even more so during spring and summer. They go with everything. These are two of my favourite looks - with skinny rolled up jeans and a Permanent Vacation tee, and a more slouchy look with Hope trousers and a Hope tee. I just got the Hope News trousers, I really like the colour and the shape. I'm just getting used to wearing pants, I used to only wear jeans, but I think I'm becoming more of a pants person. I'm in such a Hope mood right now, I love the slouchiness of their looks.

And yes, the Dieppas! A couple of days after I did a post on them I received a newsletter from the store with a 30% discount offer on one purchase. I didn't know how much I needed them until I got them. I've been wearing them just about everyday since then. They work so much better than ballet flats for me.

The leather was a bit stiff for a couple of days, and I was afraid I'd gotten half a size too small (I did get half a size smaller than my usual size), but all of a sudden they were perfect. One of my best purchases this year.
Oh, and I just realised that this post is more than a little bit inspired by this post by Amanda/Assembled Hazardly. There's probably a Freudian explanation for that, but I'll settle with the fact that I'm not the only one with a love for stripes and Dieppa Restrepo!

Burgundy

This is actually what I wore on Saturday going out to dinner with some friends. Carribean - accras, jerk fish and beer - so good! I rarely find something that I like in this wine/burgundy colour, it's one of my favourite colours. This Etolie linen top, my raw silk isabel Marant scarf and my Rag & Bone corduroy skinnies are three burgundy items that are on heavy rotation throughout the year, more so during fall and winter though.

My love for burgundy is the reason as to why I can't let go of this Rag & Bone shirt from Net-a-Porter. However, I'm not willing to pay 305 euro for it.

On a different note, I recently got this new CdG wallet for $25 on sale, there were around fifty of them, different styles and colours, just thrown into a box! I couldn't just leave it there, it fits perfectly into my Mini Twee.

Follow-up

I can't seem to let go of the idea of a perfect watch and a Sofia Coppola for LV bag. I'd love to wear them like this. The Rodarte for Opening Ceremony boots are pretty nice, but I prefer Isabel Marant's versions of the cowboy boot. I chose this picture from La Garconne even though Polyvore makes it look shaded, because I love the jeans but I can't figure out who made them. They're pretty much what I'm looking for, just slouchy enough. I have the sunglasses and the Hope sweater, in different colours though, so if I decide to save up for a bag or a watch I could try this look in a couple of  years or so:).

Dream watch

One of my co-workers has an IWC watch. It's so beautiful. I've never been that interested in watches before, but in some ways I can understand why someone would pay $7000-8000 (the least expensive ones) for a watch. It's a timeless piece of craftsmanship and an investment. It'll last at least one lifetime, and might actually increase in value. My co-worker bought his in the 1980's for 8000 SEK ($1230), and it's now selling for 26000 SEK ($4000). I'd love to own an IWC watch from the Portuguese family one day. I'm pretty sure I don't have the patience to save up for it, though. The ones I like are around $8000, it's just too much. It'd take forever to save up for it. Could I ever justify buying a $8000 watch? No. I'd be more likely to save up for my dream bag, Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton. However, I'm not sure I could spend 2500-2900 euro on a bag either, even if it's the most perfect bag in the world. I just can't imagine walking into a store and actually buying something that expensive instead of going on a pretty nice family vacation, or on the big roadtrip across the U.S.A I've been wanting to take for 15 years. My friend I started talking about it way before we had kids, and now it won't happen within the next ten years, so there's time to save up!

How much would you spend on a watch/bag/piece of jewellery? Would you have the patience to save up for it? The bag and the watch are really way out of reach for me, but I think that determination and lots of years of saving could make the dream bag mine. Would it be worth it?

On the list #3

Last week I purchased something that actually was on my wishlist, a pair of wedge espandrilles from A.P.C, the ones I was considering. I've been looking for a pair of sandals with a comfortable heel for a long time. They will be a summer equivalent to my IM boots. I'm very happy with them, the colour of the leather is a lot nicer in person compared to the online shop picture. Still one the list are: a perfect black blazer (not something I'm actively looking for since I got the Elali jacket, even if it's not a blazer), black slouchy skinny jeans, black knit and shorts (I think I've found them, but I'm not 100% sure yet).

One year old

My baby boy celebrated his first birthday on Thursday. We had the birthday party this weekend with lots of sunshine, friends, presents, kids and cake. My daughter and I have had mad baking sessions this week, we baked cinnamon rolls, two cakes (almond meringue with caramel), lime and coconut bars, chipster brownies and pecan/chocolate chip cookies! I wish I would have taken a picture of all the baked goods, but I forgot all about it. I'll get some when we have a birthday party for my daughter in July.
My daughter kept insisting on another headless shot, so here's three out of four in the headless family (even if you can actually see my head here)! These are the IM linen pants I wasn't sure if I'd keep ot not. I'm so glad I did! I've been wearing them all the time, the fabric is lovely and they go with just about everything in my closet.
Did you have a nice weekend?

As you can see, my son is already a vinyl lover! The swim shorts are a birthday present. My daughter is wearing an outfit I would wear too (quite contradictory to my previous post on children's wear, I know, but I couldn't resist the pants or the top when I saw them).

Skinny vs wide leg

When it comes to denim, I only wear skinny jeans and the occational slouchy skinny version. I'm not really conservative when it comes to pants in general, even if prefer them skinny too. During summer I wear slouchy linen pants, and printed slouchy pants, pyjama-style. Lately I've been inspired by Mommy style, again, and how great she looks in her Acne Tubes. I digged out an old pair of AG wide leg jeans of my closet and tried them on with an A.P.C top, an A.P.C belt and vintage sandals with a 2" heel. I tried the same clothes with my skinny J Brand jeans. I actually thought that the wide leg look was more interesting. As I've mentioned before, I love the look of wide leg jeans, but I never feel completely comfortable wearing them. I don't know if that's because they're not for me, or if I'm too used to my regular skinny jeans "uniform". Maybe it's just a matter of wearing them a couple of times, and then I'd feel like they're a part of my style? I used to feel that way about dresses, just never quite myself. I started wearing them on a regular basis, and after a while I really liked it. I'm afraid I might be heading in the "a bit uncomfortable direction" with dresses again..Anyways - here's a shot of the skinny and the wide leg jeans.

The bleached/worn spot on my right knee is a mystery, this happens to all my jeans.

Even though this topic has been thoroughly dicussed before, here by Les anti-modernes, I'm curious to hear your opinions. Have you felt the same way about a certain style, that you like it and they way it looks on you, but still don't want to/never end up wearing it? I bought the AG's four years ago, and I think that I've used them five times, and I'm not sure if I'll wear them now either.
