Dieppa Restrepo - off the list

Today I tried on these beautiful oxfords, Breezy Cali lace up by Dieppa Restrepo. They are midnight blue nubuck, and just perfect. I remember a post by Jennifer, here, on Dieppa Restrepo. I realised that a store here has a great selection of them, and then I forgot about it until today. I have a pair of black Repetto Zizi jazz shoes, but they are very old and worn. These are more feminine because of the wider opening at the ankle, and a good alternative to ballet flats that I sometimes feel are too feminine for me. They would probabably go with everything, jeans, dresses and shorts. They are handmade, and felt really good. Do you have any experience with Dieppa Restrepo? Are they comfortable? So, once again have I fallen in love with an off the list item....

  1. those are really beautiful and a nice alternative to ballet flats. I love how they have a lower vamp than a regular oxford, which like you said, makes them more feminine. The problem I have with Dieppa Restrepo is that the leather is very stiff, at least at first. It's difficult when you're used to Repetto that requires practically no break in time! I have a pair of their loafers that I intended to be a more casual alternative to my patent leather Repetto loafers, but I haven't worn them much yet. I think they will break in with time and be very comfortable afterwards. I just hate the initial break in period though!

  2. The aim of a list, to be extended...I think they look great, and the funny thing is that your idea of ballerinas is exactly the same as mine.

I have to admit, your list did inspire me. The small cross over bag, and yesterday the perfect black jacket.

  3. S - thanks for telling me about the leather. I noticed it, but you never really know until you wear them for a couple of hours. And by then the pain can be excruciating. I hate the initial break in period too. That makes me hesitant. Hm.

Peace in mind - I love that - "the aim of a list, to be extended"! I don't know what it is about ballet flats, maybe they're a bit too girly for me.
I'm glad I inspired you, and curious. Did you get the Mini Twee?

  4. Great purchase! Such a classic.
I've been drooling over this brand's shoes for quite some time now which is hard to find in Europe.

  5. I have to admit yes, I got the Mini Twee. Nitty Gritty is one of the best shops in Stockholm...and they also found the Oneal shirt for me, so now I am the happiest girl in town!

  6. Aïssa - I just tried them on, I haven't decided if I should get the or not. They are lovely. I was so surprised to find them, like you said, they're hard to find here in Europe.
Peace in mind - Yay, you found the shirt! That's great! I've been using my Mini Twee every day now. I'm so happy with it.

  7. These are lovely! I really like the lower vamp on the Breezy Cali, and the nubuck is just awesome. I used to have a pair in camel, but sold them to a friend because they were a touch too small. I wish I could find a replacement in the States, but this style is very hard to come by.

  8. Oh! I forgot to add that I find both the Cali and Breezy Cali to be very comfortable. The leather is a little stiff, but they feel really supportive and sturdy.

  9. jennifer - thanks, I was hoping you'd comment on them! Did you have time to break them in before you sold them? It wasn't painful? I tried half a size smaller than I usually wear, seems they run a little big.

  10. i have a pair in the regular Cali and the leather is super buttery - it's warm enough to wear them now and i expect i'll be styling them with jeans and cuffed pants a lot the next month or two! :)

  11. miss sophie - That's just how I'd style them too! So you didn't have a painful breaking in period?

  12. so you inspired me to wear my loafers today (I have the Dandy loafer) ... so far so good! they are stiff leather, yes, but are getting a bit softer, and no rubbing in any odd places, so no painful break in so far. I think I might walk in them in a bit funny, because the sole is stiff, esp compared to Repetto. Hopefully that will soften up. But they are just so much sturdier than Repetto.

  13. Those look really really good!

  14. nope - no painful breaking in period. although the leather on mine was softer to begin with when i got them - it's a slightly metallic pewter color. i'd just wear them around the apartment if yours are a bit stiff at first to soften them up :)

  15. S - that's great! I just googled the Dandy loafer, love them. Good to know that there's no rubbing so far. I'll have to try them on tomorrow again...

    Emmy - I agree!

Miss sophie - thanks for getting back to me about the breaking in. That sounds great! I'll go back to the store tomorrow and try them on with my IM linen pants, I'm curious to see how that'd work out.

  16. I tried breaking them in, but it was just too painful. My feet were just too long for the shoes! I did replace them with another pair of nubuck & patent coca colos that were half a size larger. They fit perfectly and were very easy to break in!

  17. oh, another update ... they did start to rub a little and hurt towards the end of the day, but not too bad. i tried to wear them again today, but immediately changed into repettos, because i was running late and knew i would need to run up some stairs. the stiffness of the shoes is really rather restricting for fast walking/running! not a comfort shoe choice for me, at least not until they are broken in.

  18. S - Thanks for the update! That's what I'm afraid of, that it'll take time to break them in, and I don't have the patience for pain!

  19. Jennifer - thanks for your update too! That's very good to know.

  20. i've enjoyed reading everyone's comments - it's been very helpful! i have the regular cali's and it took me about a week and half to break them in - and it was a bit painful! but now they are very very comfy and i can walked pretty much the whole day in them without a problem :)
