To keep?

So, I got these Isabel Marant trousers from Net-a-Porter. The fabric is lovely, tencel/linen blend. I like the fit, although I'd prefer them a little bit slimmer. I've been looking for the perfect black pants forever. I don't know if these are the ones. I might be too short? Besides that, it's "dry clean only". I avoid that as much as I can, it's expensive and inconvenient. Usually I hand wash dry clean only garnments, but these are expensive trousers and I'd be afraid to ruin them. I have an old pair of washed out greyish black Etoile linen pants, that are similair in style, but not as beautiful when it comes to the fabric. I think they might have to go back, and I'll stick with the Etoile trousers and my usual skinny jeans. Any thoughts? The first two pictures are of the new trousers, the one with the sandals are the old ones.

  1. Keep! They're perfect.

As for the "dry crean only". I too try to avoid these stuff and my linen trousers from IM are dry clean only as well, but the SA at IM says that you can wash these things on cold wash and "med lite snurr i vaskemaskinen, hvis du skjønner hva jeg mener?". The reason why some of the things have the "dry clean only"-tag is because IF something happens to the garment because you didn't dry cleaned it, IM is not responsible for the damage. That's what the SA told me.

  2. I think these looks really good on you. They have a similar shape to your linen pants but have a different feel ... the linen pants are much more casual, whereas the linen/tencel pants are dressier and look great the way you're paired it with socks and oxfords. So it depends on if you want more trouser options or have a use for a dressier pants. Btw, do your linen pants have 4 front pockets? I think I have the exact same pair, except I sized down in mine, which might explain the fit difference.

  3. Fleurette - Thanks for the input, great to get some SA info. That's what I was hoping for, and that makes the decision a lot easier. Jag förstår vad du menar med "lite snurr":)!
S - Haha, that's too funny! We have the same pants, mine have 4 front pockets too! Remember that I asked you about them, because I really liked the fit? Mine are a sz 1, and very roomy.
Exactly, they pants are very different. Just like you said, the linen ones are more casual, and great for summer with sandals. The linen/tencel ones would work all year, maybe even with my taupe suede/leather Hope boots. I want more trouser options, and could wear these to work. I just want to be sure that I don't end up using them just once a month, to break the skinny jeans routine. Thanks for your thoughts as well.

  4. I think they look very good on you. If you think you're too short for them, could you get them tailored to fit better? They do look very similar to your Etoile trousers!

That being said, I think that if you are on the fence about them, maybe it's a good idea to return them. I'm sure the "perfect" pair of black trousers are out there somewhere.

  5. i'm going to do devil's advocate and say take them back. for purchases that are expensive my experience is that if i didn't 110% love them as soon as i got them, the chance of having them stay unworn in my closet is high. i think you should test out a couple of different styles of shoes with the trousers, and decide. dry clean only is a lot of $$ for items if you plan on wearing them a lot. j.crew makes some pretty excellent and affordable black pants in a variety of materials, as does Helmut Lang. update when you decide what to do! :)

  6. Jennifer and Miss Sophie - Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. I haven't decided yet. But I just tried them on again, and I really love them. I'll just have to figure out if the go with my jackets and shoes. I have several tops that they go with. Shoes are a bit tricky in this case. They're fine with Repetto zizis and probably with sandals, but I have to try them on with two flat boots as well. I have a dark green linen jacket (Etoile) that might work for summer.
I know what you mean about the 110% love, Miss Sophie. I usually ask myself if I'd wear something I'm on the fence about tomorrow, if I could. If the answer is yes, it's a keeper! I'll update when I've decided:)!

  7. So, I've decided to keep them. I don't know if I'd ever find a more "perfect" pair of black trousers. I love the elasticated waist, that way I can adjust them to get just slouchy enough. It just feels right when I try them on. Thanks again for your input!

  8. Glad you decided to keep them! Hahaha, isn't it funny that an elastic waist is considered a bonus to us?? I totally feel the same way!
